More than 3,200 families affected in Haiti; at least 30 Dominican communities cut off
Heavy rains triggered flooding and landslides in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, killing at least four people and cutting off communities, authorities said Tuesday.
Both countries share the island of Hispaniola.
The rains were blamed on a low-pressure system moving through the northern Caribbean.
At least four people were reported dead and two others missing in Haiti’s southwestern region, according to the country’s Civil Protection Agency.
The agency said flooding affected more than 3,200 families in the southwest.
Hundreds of homes in that region were destroyed, according to the agency.
The Civil Protection Agency also said landslides had affected several roads in southwestern Haiti.
In the neighboring Dominican Republic, at least 30 communities had been cut off by the rains, according to the country’s Emergency Operations Center. More than 100 homes were flooded, according to the center.
