Associated Press reports Griffin J. John II tried to stop the attacker
The Associated Press reported Tuesday that a 911 call from Kaylub Giamanco had been released. The recording lasted a little more than a minute. Giamanco was driving home for lunch when he saw the 16-year-old shooter at Silver Rail Elementary School, the school his daughter attends.
Giamanco told the 911 operator there was “someone with a gun” at Silver Rail Elementary. Associated Press reporting said the 16-year-old shooter had shot his way through locked doors to enter the elementary school.
Giamanco also told the operator that he had a gun and would shoot them right now. The operator implored him, “don’t do anything, let me get an officer there.”
Giamanco and the operator spoke over one another, and Giamanco sounded increasingly frustrated. He then said, “I’m about to go kill this kid,” according to the recording.
A few seconds later, Giamanco said the shooter was entering the building. The operator asked whether the shooter was firing, and Giamanco said yes. The operator tried to obtain more information, but the call ended before Giamanco entered the school.
The Associated Press reported that the Oct. 15 attack took place in a special needs classroom. The shooter killed three children and teacher Griffin J. John II. Another student was critically injured, and a teacher was injured and hospitalized.
Associated Press reporting said John II tried to stop the shooter before Giamanco entered the school through an open window.
Giamanco entered the school through the open window, opened the door of the classroom and fired his gun, dropping the shooter to the floor. The Associated Press reported that the 16-year-old shooter died from Giamanco’s shots.
