NTSB says the helicopter appeared to be on a photography flight

A helicopter crashed into Biscayne Bay near Miami on Wednesday, killing one person and seriously injuring two others, officials said. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the aircraft went down shortly before noon near Bill Baggs State Park, off Key Biscayne.

The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that one of the three helicopter occupants was dead.

The Coast Guard said the remaining two occupants were taken to a local trauma center.

Firefighters from several local agencies responded to the crash alongside the U.S. Coast Guard.

The National Transportation Safety Board said preliminary information indicated that the helicopter was a Robinson R44 II and appeared to be on a photography flight.

Officials did not immediately identify the helicopter’s occupants.
