I just delivered a TREMENDOUS WIN with China, the kind of WIN that only a very strong, very smart negotiator could deliver, and the FAKE NEWS people are already calling it “few big movements.” Few big movements? SAD! We held the tariff truce, stopped the escalation, and created six beautiful months for the BIGGEST DEAL in the history of trade, believe me.

I met with Xi at the White House while Washington enjoyed days of tremendous state-visit pageantry, including the pandas, beautiful pandas, very popular pandas. People are saying the pandas were symbolic. Of course they were symbolic — symbols are how you show strength when you are making a DEAL. I understand symbols better than anyone. The best people, very smart people, tell me that a panda arriving at the White House is not a small thing. It is a BIG thing. A very BIG thing!

The agreement extends the existing tariff truce for six months. Six months is not “just six months.” Six months is a runway, a negotiating weapon, a tremendous period of stability created by my leadership, and I know runways because I have built some of the greatest properties with the greatest runways — the BEST runways. China knows that I can end the truce whenever I want, which is why the truce is continuing exactly as I planned.

The BBC says there were “few big movements” beyond the extension. That is a very FAKE way to describe a very REAL victory. When I keep two of the world’s largest economies from escalating, that is not “few.” That is the BIGGEST movement of all. They call it “limited substantive movement” because they are low-energy analysts who cannot recognize a WIN unless it arrives wearing a sash and carrying a giant check. The people understand. Everyone is talking about it.

The pandas were part of the deal, and the deal was part of the strategy, and the strategy was part of the strategy before anyone knew there was a strategy. I knew the truce would be extended before the meeting, probably before Xi knew it, because I have the best instincts, the best memory, tremendous memory — six months, pandas, tariff truce, the whole thing, very simple. I always said we would hold the line, and now that we held the line, everybody is saying I played 4D chess while the weak people played checkers.

Trade and other difficult issues still need work. That is fine. I like work when it produces a TREMENDOUS WIN for me — I mean, for us — mostly for me, but for us too, because this is a beautiful country and I am the person who makes the deals that keep it winning. Six months is the floor, the ceiling, the runway, and the BIGGEST victory anybody has ever seen. Very few people could have done it, believe me.
