US health officials have linked a food poisoning outbreak to alfalfa sprouts produced by Everything Sprouts, a Minnesota grower, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday. The agency reported at least 55 cases across 15 states with four hospitalizations and identified both salmonella and multiple E. coli strains among the sick.

State health authorities first announced the outbreak earlier in the week after documenting more than three dozen cases in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Minnesota health officials warned consumers on August 20 against eating alfalfa sprouts produced by Everything Sprouts of Minnesota under the Calco and Everything Sprouts brands, citing a two-state outbreak. The Minnesota officials have confirmed 23 cases in the state, including two hospitalizations, while Wisconsin investigators have identified 18 additional illnesses. The products have been distributed to restaurants and grocery stores.
