The Chinese yuan is between 20% and 30% below its true value, former senior U.S. Treasury official Mark Sobel estimates, according to an Aug. 4 Wall Street Journal column. China's economy expanded 4.3% in the second quarter from a year earlier, official data showed Wednesday, falling short of the 4.5% forecast by economists polled by The Wall Street Journal as weak domestic demand and a pullback in local-government spending weighed on growth. Growth slowed from 5.0% in the first quarter.
