Iran retaliates against U.S. assets across four countries

The U.S. military has completed what it described as a second wave of strikes against Iranian military targets, according to a U.S. military statement issued late on September 1, 2026. The statement said the operation targeted air defense sites, radar systems, and mine-laying capabilities, and described the strikes as a response to recent Iranian attempts to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

An Iranian Guard Corps spokesperson said on September 2 that the U.S. strikes caused civilian and military casualties. The same spokesperson said Iran has retaliated by targeting U.S. assets in Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, and Iraq.

The U.S. has heightened travel warnings for Americans traveling in the Middle East.
