Proposal would cost more than $1 trillion
The Guardian said President Donald Trump’s proposal to pay every adult US citizen $5,000 “immediately raised ethical concerns.”
The outlet reported that the proposal would cost more than $1 trillion.
Trump made the pledge during a speech at the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas. He conditioned the payments on Republicans retaining the House and Senate in the midterms.
Trump said the payment was possible because of the country’s “tremendous economic success, like in history we’ve never had anything like what’s happening.”
The Guardian characterized Trump’s Dallas speech as rambling.
