FedEx ‘Panda Express’ Boeing 777 carried the pair
Two giant pandas from China arrived at Zoo Atlanta on Sunday morning aboard a Boeing 777 aircraft donated by FedEx and dubbed the “FedEx Panda Express,” according to United Press International.
The 10-year loan was one of the outcomes of last week’s three-day U.S.-China summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, UPI reported. An agreement to send new pandas to the zoo had been announced in April, but no timeframe was disclosed at that time.
The pair — adult male Ping Ping and adult female Fu Shuang, both born in 2020 — returned the species to Zoo Atlanta, which has not had any pandas since 2024. The zoo’s previous pair produced seven offspring between 2006 and 2016.
The zoo said in a statement that the pandas will undergo routine quarantine for about a month. The zoo will announce later when visitors can view them, the statement added.
Zoo Atlanta is one of three U.S. zoos that currently house giant pandas, UPI reported.
