NYPD retracts early stab wounds statement
The New York City Police Department arrested 36-year-old Jonathan Robles on Sunday evening and charged him with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the killing of a 63-year-old woman whose body was found in Central Park earlier that morning, according to police. Robles was taken into custody around 9 p.m. EDT.
The victim was discovered unconscious in Central Park at approximately 9:40 a.m. EDT on Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the NYPD. The woman was found without identification, and her name has not been released publicly.
The cause of death has not been released publicly, pending an autopsy by the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office.
Early in the investigation, the department said in a statement that the woman had suffered multiple stab wounds. That statement was later retracted.
Robles’s most recent address is listed as the Barbour Hotel homeless shelter in Hell’s Kitchen, a Manhattan neighborhood, according to police.
Investigators say Robles and the victim have no known relationship, according to police.
The arrest came roughly 11 hours after the woman’s body was discovered Sunday morning. The charges against Robles are murder and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the department.
