Mamdani says he will demand Trump end ICE enforcement in NYC
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and wounded a man Thursday afternoon in his SUV in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx while a 5-year-old boy sat in the back seat, according to officials.
Officials said the man’s wounds were not considered life-threatening and the 5-year-old was not hurt. The New York Police Department said in a statement that the incident occurred at around 4 p.m. EDT and that the department was not involved.
The Department of Homeland Security said agents were making a targeted arrest of an undocumented immigrant from the Dominican Republic who had multiple criminal convictions when an agent fired his weapon and injured the man. “He has associations to the Trinitarios gang,” DHS said.
DHS said agents provided aid to the wounded man. The agency did not say what led to the shooting and said the incident is under investigation.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the boy was in the car when the shooting began. “Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds,” Mamdani said on social media. “We believe the child was physically unharmed.”
Mamdani said he has reached out to President Donald Trump. “When we speak, I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city,” he wrote. “I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.”
