Former President Barack Obama campaigned for Democrats in Cleveland on Saturday, telling the crowd that President Donald Trump’s actions were “directly responsible for rising costs.” The former president said Democrats could respond to what he described as a record of “chaos and cruelty” and “corruption and incompetence.”

Obama said, “The current president chose to make a series of bad decisions.” His criticism focused on Trump’s choices rather than a single policy.

“Most importantly, he decided to start an unnecessary war that nobody asked for, nobody voted for,” Obama said.

Obama is scheduled for a series of rallies to support Democrats as they attempt to gain control of Congress in November’s midterms elections. At the Ohio event, he urged supporters there to demand a change in the administration’s direction.

“After two years of chaos and cruelty and corruption and incompetence, the likes of which we have not seen in modern times, you get the chance to say, ‘Enough’s enough. We are going to change right here in Ohio,’” he added.

Obama also questioned whether Trump was focused on governing rather than renovation. “Does anybody really think this guy in the White House right now is spending all that time thinking about these issues?” he asked. “I mean, I don’t know if you noticed, but he seems very focused on home renovation.”

“He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened the Cheesecake Factory,” Obama said. “He’s clearly not focused on lower prices for you.”

Trump was non-committal when reporters in Florida asked him about the Iran war on Saturday. “I’ve done it very effectively and I may have to finish it off, or maybe they’ll make a deal, but I’m not sure,” he said. “Either way, we win.”
