Harris endorses Jackson in Maine Senate race, boosting Democratic bid

Former Vice President Kamala Harris endorsed Maine Democratic Senate candidate Troy Jackson on Monday, two days after the party's special convention nominated him to replace Graham Platner.
Jackson, a former state Senate president and fifth-generation logger from rural northern Maine, will challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins in a race seen as critical for control of the Senate.
The last-minute candidate transition was reminiscent of how Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee in August 2024 after President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign.
Jackson has less than four months to campaign against Collins, who has served in the Senate for 30 years.
