Supreme Court separately blocks Trump’s mail-in voting push
The Boston-based First US Circuit Court of Appeals declined on September 10, 2026, to stay a lower-court injunction that prevents the US Postal Service from tightening rules around mail-in voting, The Guardian reported. The lower-court order, issued last week, remains in effect ahead of November’s midterm elections.
The Guardian characterized the appeals court’s decision as a fresh blow to the Trump administration’s push to reshape postal balloting.
Separately, the US Supreme Court also moved to block Trump’s efforts to introduce new requirements around mail-in voting, according to The Guardian. The outlet noted that Trump has frequently criticized the practice in public while having used mail-in voting himself.
The First Circuit’s denial leaves the lower-court injunction in effect as the administration continues its court fight over postal voting rules ahead of the midterms.
