McKinsey’s 77-year-old in-laws arrested on suspicion of murder
McKinsey was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside the Dublin Sports Grounds at about 15:00 local time Saturday afternoon, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The New York Times confirmed his death.
Police identified the suspects as Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, McKinsey’s wife’s parents. Both are 77 years old. The couple face multiple charges, including first-degree murder, felony conspiracy, willful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, and child endangerment, according to police. It was unclear whether they had retained legal counsel. They are being held at the Santa Rita jail and are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday to formally face the charges.
Witnesses told KGO-TV in San Francisco that they heard a flurry of gunshots before seeing the victim collapse. “I saw the guy drop to the floor: head bloody and chest bloody,” witness Assad Razawi told the station. His daughter told the outlet that her father saw the couple “walking together and then casually walk away from the shooting.”
The couple were arrested several minutes after the attack by an officer passing through the scene. A witness said the couple had remained in the area after the shooting.
Police have not publicly disclosed any motive for the killing.
