  • A massive flood of mud, water and debris killed more than 360 people and left around 1,450 missing along the Nepal-China border on Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported.
  • Scientists believe the disaster was triggered when part of a glacier in the Langtang Lirung mountain area fell at approximately 16,000 feet, sending ice plunging some 4,000 feet into a valley.
  • The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 5.2 magnitude seismic event triggered by the landslide.
  • The Journal reported that warmer temperatures around the Himalayas have increasingly caused glacial floods unconnected to rainfall, including a 2023 glacial lake burst in India's Sikkim state.
