Supreme Court rules Trump may end TPS for Haitians, Syrians, affecting 1.3 million

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that federal courts lack jurisdiction to review most non-constitutional challenges to the termination of Temporary Protected Status, according to the June 25 decision.
Megan Hauptman, an attorney with the International Refugee Assistance Project, said the decision means courts cannot review even clearly unlawful actions by the administration when ending TPS for a country.
The ruling immediately puts at risk the legal status of more than 350,000 Haitian and 6,000 Syrian refugees, with broader implications for roughly 1.3 million TPS holders from 17 countries.
The court rejected a claim that racial animus motivated the Trump administration's TPS decision, raising the standard for proving discrimination in immigration policy, according to Aaron Reichlin-Melnick of the American Immigration Council.
