Democrats see Michigan contest as a chance to retake the Senate
Abdul El-Sayed’s primary victory sets up a November Senate contest against Mike Rogers in Michigan, NPR reported Aug. 6.
El-Sayed defeated Stevens to become the Democratic candidate. Rogers will represent the Republican Party in the race.
The contest is for the Senate seat held by Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, which is being vacated.
Democrats see the Michigan race as a difficult battle and a must-win as they seek to regain control of the Senate from Republicans, according to NPR.
The Guardian also published an opinion column by Robert Reich about El-Sayed’s victory. Reich argued that Democrats need candidates willing to oppose President Trump and criticized what he described as the influence of corporate donors within the party. Those arguments were presented as Reich’s views.
