Topics will include inflation, tariffs, labor, cost of living

The Guardian’s US politics team will host a live reader Q&A on Thursday at noon Eastern, bringing together four of the outlet’s business, labor and consumer reporters to discuss the November 3 midterm elections and the economic backdrop facing voters. The session is the latest in a series of reader conversations the team is running in the run-up to the election.

Business reporter Lauren Aratani, labor reporter Michael Sainato, consumer and corporate rights reporter Heather Timmons and business reporter Gaya Gupta will participate. According to the Guardian, the four reporters have covered inflation, cost-of-living increases, tariffs, labor and policy proposals across their beats.

In announcing the session, the Guardian described the economic backdrop as one of high food and gas prices, an unstable job market, consumers “angrier than ever,” and a new Fed chair, Kevin Warsh, who took over this year.

The Q&A is the latest in a series of reader conversations the Guardian’s US politics team has hosted ahead of the midterm elections. Earlier sessions covered the makeup of the Democratic party and key races to watch; the groups financially backing midterm candidates; and whether the Iran war could cost Trump in the midterm elections.

Readers can submit questions through the Guardian’s website during the session. The Guardian pointed readers to its “The Stakes” newsletter for additional midterm coverage.
