Vance, Cruz and DeSantis are among the potential Republican presidential contenders

Democrats have surpassed 250 seats in the United States House of Representatives, according to the Guardian’s live coverage of the 2026 midterm elections published on November 6. The outlet characterized the Democratic gains as a “blue wave sweeping Congress” that continues to grow.

The Guardian published the coverage with the final results of the midterm elections still unsettled.

Even so, the outlet reported that the Republican Party has begun to reckon with the fallout from its performance in the elections.

Already, according to the Guardian, attention is turning to the Republicans who might seek to lead the party into the next presidential race in 2028.

JD Vance, Ted Cruz and Ron DeSantis are among those in the mix, according to a Guardian report by Ariana Baio highlighted in the live coverage.

Baio’s report looks at the early jockeying, the potential contenders and what the midterm results could mean for the Republican Party’s future, the Guardian said.

As of November 6, the Democratic House count stood above 250 seats with final results outstanding, and the Republican 2028 field remained at the early-jockeying stage among potential contenders that the Guardian’s report described.
